Chicago Woman Sues Over Bed Bugs

Chicago resident Leslie Fox, age 54, sued a New York resort after being repeatedly bitten by bed bugs. After three nights at the resort, Fox awoke to the realization that she was covered with hundreds of itchy, burning bug bites. Her husband also was bitten, but nowhere near as many times as Mrs. Fox. In a statement to the press, she described the pain of the bites as an uncontrollable fiery sensation that made her want to rip her skin off.

Improved sanitation and the pesticide DDT had a big role in the elimination of these pests which have plagued people for thousands of years. However, DDT was banned because it was discovered to be unsafe, and many new pesticides after it were simply not as effective.
